Togo strengthens ties with DRC to address eastern Congo crisis

The diplomatic bridge between Lomé and Kinshasa is growing stronger as Togo deepens its involvement in regional peace efforts. During a high-level meeting in Pya on July 14, President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé received Floribert Anzuluni, Minister of Regional Integration of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), who was in Togo on a diplomatic mission.

Regional cooperation and urgent security concerns in eastern DRC

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, with a strong emphasis on the escalating security challenges in eastern DRC. Both leaders reviewed ongoing mediation efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the conflict-affected region.

DRC acknowledges Togo’s diplomatic leadership

Following the meeting, Floribert Anzuluni commended President Faure Gnassingbé for his sustained commitment to resolving the Great Lakes region’s crisis. Gnassingbé, designated by the African Union (AU) as Mediator for the eastern DRC and Great Lakes crisis, continues to engage with key stakeholders to foster dialogue and find lasting solutions.
