The question is no longer whether Mason Greenwood will leave Olympique de Marseille during the summer transfer window, but when. The English striker holds the highest market value in the squad and must be sold to help the club balance its books. AS Roma, Atletico Madrid, Fenerbahce, and Al-Hilal are among the possible destinations. However, OM does not intend to sell Greenwood cheaply, especially with Manchester United due to receive 40% of the transfer fee.
Fenerbahce ready to increase offer
Fenerbahce has already tabled a €35 million bid for Greenwood, which OM rejected. But the Turkish club is not discouraged and is expected to submit a new, improved offer before the end of the month. OM is pushing for a quick resolution, as the DNCG has requested additional documents from the club before issuing its decision. Meanwhile, AS Roma has not given up on the player.
How much will Greenwood’s transfer cost?
The key question now is how much OM will ultimately receive, with time running short. A few days ago, journalist Karim Bennati reflected on the figures being discussed. “Six months ago, when Greenwood was on fire, we were talking about much higher amounts. Now, with Marseille’s poor end to the season and his own dip in form, are we looking at €50 million for OM? Honestly, when you see other prices in Europe today, a player capable of scoring around 20 goals each season in Ligue 1 – that’s a bargain,” Bennati said on L’Equipe. “If I were OM, I would wait a bit longer. They had a clause that raised the price to €60 million on July 1. I’d hold out to find a buyer.”
