Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya and UDC demand justice for Jacques Bertrand Mang
The Union Démocratique du Cameroun (UDC) has expressed profound alarm over reports indicating that political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang has been subjected to inhumane treatment and torture. Through a statement from its president, Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, the party strongly condemned these actions, noting they are strictly prohibited by the national Constitution of Cameroun. If these allegations are confirmed, they would constitute a severe violation of the rule of law and fundamental human liberties.
The political organization maintains that no level of activism or personal disagreement can ever justify the use of violence, cruelty, or degrading treatment. Consequently, the UDC is calling on the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the situation. The goal is to ensure the physical and psychological safety of Jacques Bertrand Mang while guaranteeing that his legal rights are fully respected.
Jacques Bertrand Mang is a well-known figure for his vocal critiques of social inequality, governance failures, and the daily struggles faced by the people of Cameroun. The current controversy stems from an incident on June 30, 2026, in the city of Douala, where the activist was allegedly mistreated within a police station. During a live broadcast on his Facebook page, Mang was seen requesting his release, only to be told by officers that he could not leave while in a state of anger. Despite his repeated attempts to exit the premises, he was detained under the pretext of waiting for a superior official.
This is not the first time the activist has faced such challenges. Mang has previously been apprehended and forcibly placed in a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation against his will. His digital content frequently highlights issues within the police, gendarmerie, customs, and municipal authorities, often targeting government officials and public figures. Currently, it is understood that he has been placed in police custody following these latest events.
