Dakar — Following a recent Conference of Presidents (CDP) held on Friday, June 19, Senegal’s National Assembly has outlined a rigorous new legislative agenda. Key proposals, including the revised Labor Code and the Social Security Code, are slated for committee review this Saturday, June 20, with their subsequent presentation for a full plenary session scheduled for Monday, June 22.

However, the most significant item commanding national attention remains the proposed bill for a constitutional revision. Ousmane Sonko, the esteemed President of the National Assembly, thoroughly discussed this crucial document with Bureau members. He notably conveyed to his colleagues that, to date, no response had been received from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye regarding the mandatory legal opinion officially submitted to the head of state.

Given this notable silence from the Executive, the parliamentary leader has established a firm deadline of Monday, June 22. Should this date pass without a presidential response, the National Assembly’s Bureau will promptly convene to advance the legislative process, irrespective of the presidency’s stance. Ousmane Sonko emphatically restated his commitment to ensuring this constitutional revision proposal is thoroughly reviewed and put to a vote before the current ordinary session concludes.

Furthermore, the President of the National Assembly utilized this gathering to highlight that Parliament is still awaiting the submission of two significant financial bills. These texts, which include the Rectifying Finance Bill (LFR) and the Budget Orientation Debate (DOB) document, have already received approval from the Council of Ministers. A palpable countdown has now commenced, underscoring the growing tension between the legislative and executive branches.
