Gagnoa – The Ouragahio commune in Côte d’Ivoire, under the leadership of Mayor Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, recently conducted a thorough evaluation of its women’s empowerment policy. This assessment took place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, within the town hall courtyard, coinciding with a special ceremony honoring the commune’s women, affectionately known as ‘Mother’s Day,’ which was presided over by the local Sub-Prefect, Tié-Bi Assi Apo Josiane.
The initiatives under review encompassed a variety of programs designed to uplift women. These included essential literacy training, foundational accounting skills for women entrepreneurs, and comprehensive mother-and-child healthcare services. Furthermore, efforts focused on expanding maternity facilities and health centers across the communal territory. Mayor Dacoury-Tabley emphasized that the primary goal of these actions is to ensure mothers remain in robust health, enabling them to actively participate in and lead their own empowerment endeavors on the ground.
In the realm of commerce, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley highlighted the ongoing construction of a multi-shop gastronomic hub. This new space, he noted, will provide an excellent platform for women to showcase their culinary talents and high-quality products. The overarching ambition is to create sustainable income-generating opportunities, allowing these mothers to thrive economically from their ventures.
The empowerment strategy also extends to agricultural projects, where women farmers receive crucial assistance in their fields through the provision of dedicated agricultural laborers and support staff.
