A Moroccan parliamentary delegation secured a prominent position at the Mediterranean Union’s highest legislative body during the 10th Summit of Parliament Presidents and the 19th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM). The meetings, held in Egypt’s new administrative capital over the weekend, marked a significant step forward for Morocco’s diplomatic presence in the region.
Morocco’s Strategic Role in Euro-Mediterranean Diplomacy
Leading the delegation, Abdelmajid Fassi Fihri, Vice President of the Chamber of Representatives, emphasized Morocco’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary collaboration across the Mediterranean. The Kingdom’s election to the PA-UfM Bureau and its appointment as chair of the Artificial Intelligence Commission underscored the international recognition of Morocco’s diplomatic influence and institutional modernization efforts.
Key Achievements at the PA-UfM Session
The newly elected Bureau for 2026–2030 was finalized during the extended meetings, with Morocco securing a pivotal role in shaping the Assembly’s agenda. Fassi Fihri highlighted the strategic importance of the selected themes—artificial intelligence, youth engagement, and parliamentary diplomacy for peace and stability in the Middle East—which reflect the Assembly’s commitment to addressing both technological and geopolitical transitions in the region.
The Moroccan delegation, including parliamentarians Chaoui Belassal, Meriem Rmili, Houria Didi, Rabab Aïlal, Salwa Demnati, and Ibrahim Aâba, actively contributed to discussions on pressing Mediterranean issues, from digital transformation to shared security and sustainable development.
Vision for a Modern and Connected Mediterranean
Fassi Fihri reaffirmed Morocco’s dedication to advancing its digital economy and technological infrastructure, aligning with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to position the Kingdom as a reliable partner in Africa, the Mediterranean, and beyond. The delegation’s participation reinforced Morocco’s role in fostering parliamentary dialogue and cooperation as essential pillars for regional stability and prosperity.
The session concluded with a call to enhance coordination among member states and elevate the PA-UfM’s role as a trusted platform for collective action, ensuring the Mediterranean’s shared future remains secure, stable, and sustainable.
