A significant shift is underway for two French international stars, Ibrahima Konaté and Kylian Mbappé, who are now set to share their daily professional lives. Following the conclusion of the ongoing World Cup and their subsequent summer break, both players will head to Valdebebas, the esteemed training ground of Real Madrid. The Spanish giants officially announced the signing of the French defender on Thursday, confirming his arrival as a free agent after his departure from Liverpool at the end of May. This news has clearly delighted Mbappé, who publicly welcomed his new club teammate.

“Five years ago, I arrived here as a young player full of aspirations. Today, I depart with memories that will stay with me forever,” Konaté shared on May 31st via an Instagram post. This announcement coincided with his arrival at Clairefontaine to prepare for the 2026 World Cup with the France national team. He reflected on his five seasons with Liverpool on the banks of the Mersey, stating, “It has been an honour to represent this club. We shared incredible moments together… highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, as well as heartbreaking moments that will forever be etched in our memories, none more painful than the loss of our brother Diogo.”
“I am deeply saddened not to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to you all”
“To my teammates, coaches, staff, and everyone working behind the scenes, thank you for helping me grow day after day. To the supporters… thank you for your love, your energy, and your incredible support. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted. I am deeply saddened not to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to you all during the final match. At that moment, I didn’t know it would be the last time I wore this jersey in front of you,” the central defender of the France squad further expressed. At 27 years old, Konaté embraced Real Madrid’s offer, signing a four-season contract that binds him to the Madrid club until June 2030.

On Instagram, a collaborative post was published and subsequently commented on by the captain of the France national team, Kylian Mbappé. Currently with Konaté at the World Cup in America, Mbappé warmly welcomed his French national teammate, who will now also become his club colleague. “Ibou,” was the simple yet heartfelt comment from Kylian Mbappé, accompanied by a heart emoji.
