François Silibi takes seat in Bénin’s parliament following Louis Vlavonou’s transition

François Silibi officially joined the Assemblée nationale this Friday, July 10, 2026, stepping into the role left vacant by Louis Vlavonou, who moved to the Senate after completing his term as President of the National Assembly.

His induction ceremony took place immediately after the plenary session at the Palais des Gouverneurs in Porto-Novo, marking the formal start of his legislative duties.

Who is the new deputy?

Born in 1982, François Silibi is a professor of English and hails from Ifangni, the same hometown as his predecessor, Louis Vlavonou. He will represent this constituency for the remainder of the 10th legislative term, which concludes in February 2033.

Silibi, who previously served as the alternate deputy to the former President of the National Assembly, now assumes full parliamentary responsibilities. His appointment follows Vlavonou’s departure after his retirement from customs, which secured him a seat in the Senate as a lifetime member.
