Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, engaged in significant discussions with Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwaiti Directorate General of Civil Aviation, on Tuesday in Rabat. The pivotal meeting aimed at bolstering the strategic alignment between the two nations within the critical domain of air navigation.
Convening on the sidelines of the 29th General Assembly session of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, hosted in Morocco, both delegations meticulously reviewed actionable strategies to reinforce air safety and security protocols. Furthermore, they proactively explored avenues for expanding comprehensive bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector.
Speaking after the talks, Minister Kayouh underscored the enduring excellence of the historical relationship binding Morocco and Kuwait. He revealed that a key agenda item was the revitalization of the direct air route connecting Kuwait and Casablanca. Kayouh affirmed that Royal Air Maroc is fully committed to promptly resuming this essential service, particularly following the anticipated integration of its new generation of long-haul aircraft into the fleet.
For his part, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah highlighted another crucial topic addressed: the projected increase in air traffic between Kuwait and Morocco. This strategic foresight is directly linked to Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. The discussions focused on preparing to accommodate the anticipated surge in tourist arrivals, benefiting both Morocco and the broader Gulf region.
The proceedings of this significant session concluded with the election of members for the Organization’s principal bodies for the 2026-2028 term, encompassing the General Assembly, the Executive Council, and various technical committees. A notable outcome was the official appointment of Khalid Cherkaoui as the new Director-General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
