The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has appointed economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister of the country. This decision was announced via a decree broadcast on national television on Monday, May 25.
A former senior official at the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Mr. Lô previously served as Secretary-General in the initial government formed by President Faye, who has been in office since April 2024. He later transitioned into a ministerial role within the same administration.
This appointment comes just four days after the dismissal of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, following months of escalating tensions between the two key figures in Senegal’s executive branch.
