Sénegal parliament session: five key laws on monday’s agenda

Dakar — The public release of the official decree convening an extraordinary session of the Sénégal National Assembly has set the stage for a pivotal week in legislative activity. Signed by Assembly President Ousmane Sonko, the document formally schedules the session to commence this coming Monday, August 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM sharp, in strict accordance with constitutional provisions and internal parliamentary rules.

Legislative priorities for the 15th Legislature

The extraordinary session, as outlined in bureau decree number 192, will focus on five major legislative texts, all of which will undergo thorough examination by members of the 15th Legislature:

• Labor Code Reform Bill (No. 15/2026) — A comprehensive update to national labor legislation aimed at modernizing employment frameworks and worker protections.
• Social Security Code Bill (No. 16/2026) — Proposals to revise the social safety net system, including pension reforms and health coverage enhancements.
• Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Bill (No. 25/2026) — New measures to strengthen cybersecurity and protect national digital assets from emerging threats.
• Constitutional Amendment Bill (Proposal No. 33/2026) — A bid to revise Article 37 of the Constitution, potentially altering the balance of powers within the state.
• Special Credits Legal Framework Bill (Proposal No. 34/2026) — Provisions governing the allocation and management of emergency public spending.

The session will also include the ratification of six parliamentary inquiry commissions, each addressing critical governance issues:

• Inconsistencies in the awarding and renewal of fishing licenses.
• Tax exemption policies and their fiscal impact on national revenue.

Once proceedings begin on Monday, the agenda will remain fixed and unalterable until all items are addressed, as mandated by the Assembly’s internal regulations.
