N’Djamena, August 6, 2026 – The Higher Institute of Journalism and Communication (ISJCT) and the Chadian Online Media Association (AMET) have formalized a groundbreaking partnership in N’Djamena. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academic training and professional media practice, setting the stage for long-term improvements in journalism standards across Chad.

Real-world experience for journalism students

The agreement includes provisions for ISJCT students to undertake professional internships within media outlets affiliated with AMET. This hands-on experience will ease their transition from classroom learning to active journalism careers while also enhancing the visibility of the institute among media professionals.

Professional growth for journalists and managers

Beyond internships, the partnership introduces a comprehensive continuing education program designed for journalists, editors-in-chief, newsroom managers, and media executives. The curriculum will cover cutting-edge areas such as digital journalism, fact-checking, newsroom management, media business models, artificial intelligence applications, ethics, and journalist safety—all critical skills for today’s evolving media landscape.

Voices from the ground

Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye, representing the ISJCT project, emphasized the vital role of collaboration: « A journalism school cannot thrive without close ties to industry professionals. The media serve as our teaching partners, training grounds, and future employers for our graduates. »

Bello Bakary Mana, President of AMET, welcomed the initiative wholeheartedly, highlighting its dual benefits: « This partnership empowers media companies to shape the next generation of journalists while giving professionals a chance to sharpen their skills. With the ISJCT, the path to excellence is within reach. »

Building a center of excellence

Launched by the NGO MEDEV and supported by the Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie, the ISJCT is scheduled to welcome its first cohort of students in October 2026. The institute aspires to become a regional hub for initial training, research, innovation, and professional development in journalism, media management, and communication.

The ISJCT represents a bold step toward establishing Chad’s first specialized higher education institution dedicated to journalism, media management, and communication, addressing a long-standing need for advanced professional training in the sector.
