PSG and Manchester United play to a draw in their final preseason showdown

With just four days left before the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United settled for a 1-1 draw in their second preseason clash in Gothenburg, Sweden.

After a heavy 0-3 defeat to RCD Mallorca in their opening preseason outing, the Parisians traveled to the chilly climes of Gothenburg seeking redemption. With several first-team regulars still sidelined, the French side quickly found their rhythm, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Gonçalo Ramos, and Ibrahim Mbaye orchestrating a swift counterattack that culminated in a second-minute strike. The stadium erupted as Kvaratskhelia’s effort cannoned in off the post, signaling PSG’s intent to avoid another lackluster display.

United, however, refused to roll over. Despite the early setback, they clawed their way back into the contest. Bryan Mbeumo, introduced as a substitute, proved particularly troublesome for the PSG defense, and Amad Diallo capitalized on a defensive lapse from Axel Koukaba to level proceedings in the 32nd minute. The momentum continued to swing Manchester’s way, with Mbeumo nearly adding a second from a free kick, only for Matveï Safonov to make a crucial intervention.

Late substitutions inject fresh energy

The introduction of Portuguese trio Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, and João Neves, alongside veteran defender Marquinhos, injected a new dynamic into the game as the clock ticked toward the hour mark. The changes came just as Manchester United began to assert greater control, though a late surge from Safonov—most notably a thunderous free kick—kept PSG’s hopes alive.
