On a Saturday morning visit to Louga, Ousmane Sonko made his way to the Koki daara. However, the leader of Pastef found himself unable to proceed further due to the overwhelming presence of talibés who had gathered in force.
What began as a routine political engagement quickly transformed into a scene of enthusiastic support. The talibés, numbering in the hundreds, formed a human barrier that halted the politician’s progress. Chanting his name in unison, they created an electrifying atmosphere that left little room for the original itinerary to unfold.
Unstoppable enthusiasm greets Sonko in Koki
The sheer scale of the turnout in Koki caught both organizers and observers off guard. The talibés, many of whom had traveled from surrounding areas, refused to let Sonko advance beyond the initial meeting point. Their chants of “Sonko! Sonko!” echoed through the streets, underscoring the deep connection between the politician and his base.
Efforts to continue the visit were ultimately abandoned as the crowd’s energy made movement nearly impossible. The original plans for the day—meetings, discussions, and interactions—were set aside in favor of acknowledging the spontaneous show of support.
