Ousmane Sonko rallies Pastef militants in Bargny for membership card drive

The first stop of Sonko’s campaign saw the Pastef leader greeted by a massive crowd in Bargny, where local officials and party supporters had gathered to welcome him.

Ousmane Sonko launched a new political tour this Saturday, making his first appearance in Bargny before continuing to Sébikotane, Khombole, and Bambey. The Pastef leader left Keur Gorgui to personally engage with activists and strengthen support for the party’s membership card sales campaign.

In Bargny, Sonko was met by an enthusiastic crowd of party members and political leaders. Addressing the gathering, the former Prime Minister emphasized that his visit aimed to energize supporters around the membership drive, which he described as critical to the party’s future success.

« My priority here is to encourage our activists in selling membership cards. I shouldn’t even be speaking right now, » Sonko declared, urging local leaders and grassroots members to fully commit to the campaign.

For Sonko, this membership drive is more than just a fundraising effort—it’s a strategic move ahead of upcoming elections. He pointed to the strong turnout in Bargny as proof of the party’s deep roots in the community. « The sale of these cards will decide the outcome of the next elections, » he declared firmly to his supporters.

Acknowledging their resilience, he reassured them of his unwavering commitment. « I have seen what you endured—the victims under Macky Sall’s rule. Know that I have not forgotten Bargny, » he affirmed.

« We still lack the resources and tools to fully realize our vision, » he admitted, while expressing confidence in the momentum built since the party assumed power.

Urging calm and discipline, Sonko called on militants to remain focused amid rising political tensions. He stressed that the membership drive plays a crucial role in consolidating Pastef’s political project.

« We are 80% of the way to our goal. The remaining 20% depends on this membership drive—and we won’t tolerate any provocations that could derail our progress, » he concluded, calling on supporters to redouble their efforts.
