The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive turnaround in their operations, asserting full control over regions previously targeted by coordinated attacks from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) in the north and the Support for Islam and Muslims (JNIM) group in central and southern Mali.
In a formal statement, the FAMA detailed ongoing clashes in Anifif, a strategic location in the northeast—roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal—following the arrival of additional personnel and equipment dispatched to the FLA.
The army emphasized that its troops met the challenge head-on, sustaining intense fighting throughout the day with unwavering resolve and strict adherence to military discipline. The communiqué underscored an unshaken confidence in the FAMA’s ability to safeguard national unity, protect civilians, and defeat hostile forces.
Meanwhile, the Azawad Liberation Front’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed control over Anfif, citing a resurgence in hostilities. He categorically denied reports of the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, insisting that the commander remains actively engaged in directing military operations across northern Mali.
