Local elections 2027: Ousmane Sonko warns Diomaye Faye against possible postponement

During his investiture rally this Sunday at Dakar Arena, Ousmane Sonko addressed the upcoming local elections, making his stance clear on any possible postponement of the vote. Before a large crowd of PASTEF members and senior officials, the party leader firmly stated that his political organization would not support any move to delay the elections. “PASTEF will not agree to a postponement of the local elections. We are ready,” he announced, drawing applause from his supporters.

Continuing his speech, Sonko emphasized that any election delay must, in his view, comply with the institutional procedures established by law. “An election postponement is only possible in Senegal if it goes through the National Assembly,” he asserted, while urging those responsible to initiate the necessary steps to ensure the election takes place. The PASTEF leader also appeared to respond to speculation about the election timeline. “Let the president sign the decree; slowness will not save anyone,” he declared.
