ID4Africa 2026: Abidjan to host major digital identity summit

ID4Africa sets stage in Abidjan for digital identity breakthroughs

From May 12 to 15, 2026, Abidjan will become the epicenter of Africa’s digital transformation at the 7th annual ID4Africa General Assembly. The event takes place at the Port-Bouët Exhibition Park, bringing together key stakeholders to explore the theme: “Digital identity: from public digital infrastructures to public digital ecosystems”.

The gathering unites African policymakers, technical experts, private sector innovators, and representatives from international institutions. This year’s opening session was led by Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, who set the tone for four days of strategic discussions.

Why digital identity matters for Africa

Over the course of the event, participants will delve into critical challenges such as secure population identification, seamless access to digital public services, data protection, and the development of inclusive digital ecosystems.

The conference goes beyond mere technical infrastructure. It emphasizes a holistic approach that integrates human, legal, institutional, and sector-specific dimensions to create robust and responsible identity systems across the continent.

Since its inception in 2014, ID4Africa has been a driving force in helping African nations build reliable digital identity frameworks. These systems support national development, digital transformation, and humanitarian efforts by ensuring citizens can access essential services with confidence.

Côte d’Ivoire’s digital leadership on display

Hosting this year’s assembly underscores Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to advancing digital governance in Africa. The country is positioning itself as a leader in digital transformation, with a strong focus on the importance of secure and reliable digital identities to empower citizens and streamline access to public services.

With its strategic location and growing digital infrastructure, Abidjan is set to become a hub for innovation, collaboration, and policy development in digital identity for years to come.
