Gabon is advancing its economic partnership with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) through ongoing technical discussions and negotiations. The government has emphasized that constructive and responsible dialogue continues to shape this collaboration, ensuring alignment with national priorities.
Following the conclusion of the spring meetings in April, Gabonese officials and IMF representatives have maintained regular virtual exchanges, adhering to a jointly agreed schedule. This technical work focuses on refining key economic and financial frameworks. Notably, on July 2, 2026, the Gabonese Minister of Economy, Finance, Public Debt, and State Holdings—also tasked with addressing rising living costs—met cordially with the IMF’s Africa Director and the mission chief for Gabon, Aliona Cebotari, at the IMF headquarters in Washington.
The discussions are guided by a comprehensive roadmap that aligns with Gabon’s 2026 revised budget law and the macroeconomic and fiscal framework for 2027–2029. Progress is also being made in gradually consolidating economic, financial, and budgetary data, laying the groundwork for the next phases of engagement with the Fund.
