Ewen Jaouen departs Stade de Reims to join Newcastle United in Premier League

After three years with Stade de Reims, goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is heading to England. The Champenois club confirmed his transfer to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Wednesday, June 10.

It’s official: Ewen Jaouen is leaving Stade de Reims! The Reims club announced his move to Newcastle United, in the English top flight, on June 10. The 20-year-old joined the Rouge et Blanc three years ago. This transfer places him among the top 15 most valuable goalkeepers in football history.

After several loan spells, the shot-stopper delivered an outstanding first full season with Stade de Reims this campaign. With 15 clean sheets, he achieved the best performance across both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 this season. In its statement, the club from Champagne hailed him as “one of the most promising last lines of defence in French football.” Having earned his first call-up to the France Under-21 side this year, the Breton “impresses with his reflex saves, composure on the ball and great maturity.”

A commitment to young footballers in the Marne region

Stade de Reims invested in him as early as 2023. After the first half of the season with the Pro 2 group, the goalkeeper went out on several loans, notably at Rodez. With the Aveyron club, at age 18 he became the youngest starting goalkeeper across Europe’s top five leagues and their second divisions. The following season he joined Dunkerque, where his team reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de France.

Beyond his on-field duties, Ewen Jaouen was actively involved with the young players of AS Gueux, coaching them several times a week. When his schedule allowed, he also joined them on pitches across the department on weekends. Just before his departure, the children came to spend a final moment with him at the Raymond Kopa training centre.
