President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno of Chad has unequivocally affirmed a heightened resolve in the nation’s fight against the extremist group Boko Haram. On May 5th, he conveyed a powerful message via Facebook, stating, “We will pursue this struggle with renewed determination until the total eradication of this threat.” This declaration followed a severe attack that occurred just one day prior, where an offshoot of the armed Islamist organization targeted the Barka Tolorom military installation.

The assault, which took place on the Chadian side of Lake Chad, resulted in the tragic loss of 24 soldiers.
