Chad clears CEEAC dues to reaffirm regional commitment

During a high-level meeting in N’Djamena on Monday, July 13, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno welcomed a delegation from the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), led by Rosario Mbasogo Kung, the organization’s current Chair of the Council of Ministers.

The session also introduced the newly appointed leadership of the CEEAC Commission, including Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira as President and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour as Vice-President.

A key outcome of the discussion was Chad’s commitment to settling its outstanding financial obligations to the regional bloc. The Chadian Head of State instructed government officials to clear all unpaid contributions to the CEEAC budget and ensure timely future payments. This move underscores Chad’s dedication to the bloc’s operational stability, as stated in an official communiqué.

President Mahamat emphasized Chad’s strong backing for the CEEAC, highlighting the organization’s role in supporting transitions in both Chad and Gabon, which contributed to the restoration of constitutional order. He reassured attendees of Chad’s continued political, economic, and financial support for the regional institution.

CEEAC representatives outlined their strategic priorities and challenges, emphasizing plans to accelerate economic integration in Central Africa. Their goals include boosting intra-regional trade, enhancing transport infrastructure, promoting free movement of people and goods, and strengthening the free trade zone.

Rosario Mbasogo Kung welcomed Chad’s assurances and stressed that the CEEAC’s success hinges on both institutional efforts and member states’ commitment to fostering a Central African region defined by peace, integration, prosperity, and solidarity.
