Chelsea winger Mudryk cleared to return after doping ban overturned
In 2024, Ukrainian international Mykhailo Mudryk faced a four-year doping ban after a prohibited substance—meldonium—was detected in a routine test. The suspension sparked immediate controversy, prompting an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. However, regulatory changes implemented since then mean such a case today would likely have been handled differently.
“Antidoping rules have evolved,” confirmed football authorities in an official statement. “While Mudryk’s case cannot be reopened, the positive test recorded in 2024 would no longer trigger disciplinary action under current regulations. The detected meldonium level would not have been flagged, meaning no violation would have been recorded.”
“Given these updates and additional contextual factors, both parties reached a mutual agreement—with World Anti-Doping Agency approval—to resolve the matter.”
Under this resolution, Mudryk admitted to breaching antidoping protocols and accepted the full duration of his suspension. With that period now served, he is officially reinstated and eligible to compete without restriction.
