The Speaker of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has formally acknowledged the Constitutional Council’s decision to invalidate the constitutional reform bill passed by lawmakers. In a public statement, the leader of the Pastef party accepted the ruling with the declaration that it ‘must be honored by all.’
Addressing the broader implications of the decision, Sonko emphasized the importance of institutional roles. ‘When each institution fulfills its mandate within its defined scope, no crisis can arise,’ he noted. His remarks underscored the necessity of respecting judicial authority in maintaining constitutional order.
Reaffirming the National Assembly’s commitment to its duties, Sonko declared that legislative work will continue without interruption. ‘We will proceed with our legislative duties—voting on laws and rejecting those that fail to meet our obligations to the people,’ he stated, reaffirming the Assembly’s dedication to serving the nation.
