The Speaker of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has acknowledged the Constitutional Council’s decision declaring the parliamentary-approved constitutional reform law unconstitutional. The leader of the Pastef movement emphasized that the ruling by the “Seven Wise Ones” must be respected by all.
In a public statement, Sonko underscored the finality of the decision: « Beyond any interpretations or reactions to the reasoning behind it, one fact remains: this ruling is binding on everyone. So be it. »
Highlighting the importance of institutional roles, he noted, « When institutions function within their designated powers, no crisis can arise. »
Sonko reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to fulfilling its legislative duties. « Parliament will continue to exercise its mandate fully—laws will be passed or rejected in service of the commitments made to our resilient and honorable people, » he declared.
