Niger boosts healthcare access with new CSI in Maradi and Tessaoua

The region of Maradi in Niger is undergoing a healthcare transformation, with the inauguration of three new Integrated Health Centers (CSI) in Maradi and Tessaoua. These facilities, developed under the PIDUREM initiative, mark a significant stride toward enhancing local access to essential medical services.

Expanding healthcare infrastructure in Maradi

The introduction of these new Type II CSI centers in Maradi and Tessaoua is a cornerstone of the PIDUREM project, designed to decentralize healthcare services and reduce pressure on regional hospitals. By bringing advanced medical resources closer to urban and peri-urban populations, the initiative aims to improve health outcomes and service efficiency.

Modern facilities and institutional backing

Two of the newly inaugurated centers—located in the ADS district of Maradi’s third arrondissement and Toudou district of Tessaoua—have already entered their operational phase. Equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, these facilities are now fully functional, offering a range of healthcare services tailored to local needs. A third center in Tsamia Koura, Tessaoua, is nearing completion and will soon be fitted with essential equipment.

The project’s success hinges on robust institutional collaboration, with regional authorities, health officials, and community leaders overseeing every stage of development. This coordinated effort ensures that the centers not only meet structural standards but also align with the health needs of the communities they serve.

Bridging the healthcare gap in Niger

For a country like Niger, which is actively pursuing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in healthcare, the PIDUREM model sets a benchmark. By combining infrastructure development with the timely delivery of medical equipment, the initiative avoids the pitfalls of underutilized facilities—a common issue in development projects. The new CSI centers in Maradi and Tessaoua are poised to become vital hubs for health and wellness, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare.
