The 58th ordinary session of the Interparliamentary Committee of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (CIP-UEMOA) is currently underway in Niamey. Amidst the ongoing proceedings, Dr. Mamoudou Harouna Djingarey, President of Niger’s Consultative Council for Refoundation (CCR), held a crucial meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, with a significant community parliamentary delegation.
2027 budget and strategic direction central to talks
The CIP-UEMOA Bureau delegation was led by its acting president, Fononna Cheick Ahmed Coulibaly. Following this high-level engagement, Coulibaly shed light on the key topics addressed with Nigerien officials.
This 58th ordinary session, scheduled from July 13 to 18, 2026, in the Nigerien capital, holds a predominantly financial focus.
“We seized this opportunity to present to the CCR President the substance of our work, which centered on examining and adopting the CIP-UEMOA’s 2027 budget, alongside the multi-year budgetary programming framework for 2027-2029,” stated Fononna Cheick Ahmed Coulibaly.
First half of 2026 review and integration roadmap
Parliamentarians also reviewed activities from the first half of 2026 before outlining priority actions and allocating necessary budgetary envelopes for the second half of the year. Seeking guidance and strategic directions from the CCR President was a prominent aspect of the discussions, aiming to accelerate the regional integration process across the West Africa Sahel.
Niger reaffirms commitment to community solidarity
The acting president of the CIP-UEMOA warmly commended Niger’s unwavering dedication. He emphasized that the exceptional hospitality underscored the robust relationship between the Consultative Council for Refoundation and the Interparliamentary Committee, demonstrating the nation’s resolve to foster dialogue and solidarity within the West African space, a crucial element in Sahel politics today.
Both institutions mutually acknowledged the success and diligent nature of the work conducted since the session’s inception, reaffirming their collective resolve to combine efforts. This strengthened parliamentary cooperation is envisioned as a vital instrument for enhancing the welfare of the populace and the prosperity of UEMOA member states.
