In Rabat this past Thursday, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director-General of Morocco’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance, hosted a senior delegation from Spain’s Civil Guard. The meeting was led by Lieutenant General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, Head of Spain’s Intelligence Directorate, as part of an official mission to Morocco.
The visit underscores the robust security cooperation between Moroccan and Spanish authorities—a model in counterterrorism and cross-border crime prevention. During the event, several officials from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) were awarded prestigious Spanish honors, granted by the Spanish Interior Minister in recognition of their contributions to operational cooperation and technical assistance.
The communiqué highlighted these distinctions as a testament to the depth of the strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain, reflecting Madrid’s acknowledgment of the Moroccan security leaders’ expertise in addressing shared threats.
During the ceremony, Lieutenant General Peláez Piñeiro emphasized the essential role of Morocco as a security partner in combating terrorism and organized crime. He praised the advanced bilateral security cooperation in response to growing regional and international challenges.
These honors follow previous recognitions, including the awarding of Spain’s Grand Cross of Merit to Abdellatif Hammouchi in November 2025—the highest distinction bestowed by the Spanish Civil Guard. In 2014, he was also honored with the Police Merit Cross with Red Distinction for his pivotal role in fostering exemplary security collaboration between Morocco and Spain.
