The commander of Morocco’s Southern Zone, Corps General Mohammed Berrid, who also serves as Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), embarked on a diplomatic and military mission to Mauritania this week. The high-level delegation was received by Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in the capital, Nouakchott, with Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, present during the meeting.
Following the presidential audience, General Berrid visited the Mauritanian Ministry of Defense, where he engaged in productive discussions with Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a symbolic gesture of recognition, the Mauritanian President awarded General Berrid the National Order of Merit in the rank of Commander, honoring his contributions to bilateral military relations.
The Moroccan delegation then joined forces with Mauritania’s Chief of Staff to co-chair the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. Senior military officials from both nations reviewed the progress of their defense collaboration, highlighting the tangible benefits and strategic alignment of their partnership.
Both sides expressed strong satisfaction with the outcomes of this cooperation, describing it as a model of strategic partnership that strengthens regional stability. The discussions underscored shared commitments to enhancing security and defense capabilities through mutual support and coordinated efforts.
