Greenwood close to Marseille exit
Mason Greenwood is close to leaving Olympique de Marseille as the club seeks to raise funds. The English forward is a target for AS Roma, who have secured a spot in next season’s Champions League. While Marseille’s board hopes to secure at least €50 million for the player—part of which will go to Manchester United—Roma believes it can land the striker for a lower fee.

Roma confident OM will lower price
To balance the books, OM plans to sell Mason Greenwood, who is being pursued by Atletico Madrid, AS Roma, and Fenerbahce. The asking price for the English striker is a minimum of €50 million. A source close to the Marseille board stated this week, ‘Many suitors think OM will sell Greenwood cheaply this summer because the club is forced to offload players. But they are mistaken—there are too many symbolic and financial stakes involved.’
What price will OM sell Greenwood at?
However, in the Italian camp, there is strong belief that OM will eventually give in. This Friday, AS Roma is confident that it can finalise the transfer of Mason Greenwood for €40 million plus bonuses. The Marseille club is under pressure to raise funds quickly, as the DNCG (French football’s financial watchdog) has requested additional information before issuing its decision.
Will Olympique de Marseille agree to sell Mason Greenwood for less than €50 million as Roma expects? Some observers consider the Marseille asking price already a bargain. ‘I’ve seen other prices in Europe today. Honestly, a player who scores around 20 goals each season in Ligue 1 for that price is a steal,’ journalist Karim Bennani remarked recently. ‘If I were OM, I already have a clause to raise it to €60 million on July 1. I’d wait a little longer to find a buyer.’
