The Malian Army Reclaims Control
The Malian army has announced that it has regained the initiative and control of the situation in all areas targeted by attacks by the Front de libération de l’Azawad (FLA) in the north and the ‘Soutien de l’islam et des musulmans’ group linked to Al-Qaïda in the center and south of the country.
Clash at Anifif
A clash occurred on Sunday at Anifif, approximately 110 kilometers south of Kidal city in the north-east of Mali, following the arrival of reinforcements and equipment for the FLA.
The Malian army’s official statement stated that the fighting continued despite the attempt to exert pressure, with units from the Forces armées maliennes pursuing the combat with determination and tenacity throughout the day.
Confidence in Military Capabilities
The army reiterated its ‘full confidence’ in the military forces’ ability to defend national unity and territorial integrity, protect the population, and defeat enemy forces.
A spokesperson for the FLA, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier announced that they controlled the situation at Anifif after resuming fighting.
He also denied reports of the death of the FLA leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, stating that he continued to lead military operations in the north of the country.
