Economic and infrastructure collaboration takes center stage

The President of Madagascar’s Refoundation Movement, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, attended the 66th anniversary of Chad’s independence in N’Djamena on August 11, 2026. The national celebration at Place de la Nation featured a grand military parade, where Randrianirina joined President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno of Chad and President Horta N’Tam of Guinea-Bissau in uniform. This visit followed bilateral talks focused on strengthening ties between Antananarivo and N’Djamena, with a particular emphasis on economic and infrastructure development. Randrianirina emphasized the importance of African unity, stating, “When Africans unite and support one another, the continent thrives.”

Reviving historical partnerships

During discussions, Randrianirina highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relations between Madagascar and Chad, noting a gradual decline in exchanges over recent years. Despite this, both nations share deep historical ties, including French colonial history, adoption of republican status in 1958, and independence in 1960. The President of Chad has announced plans for an official visit to Madagascar to further deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
