The leader of Côte d’Ivoire’s main opposition party, the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire – African Democratic Rally (PDCI-RDA), Tidjane Thiam, has issued a nationwide address praising recent steps taken by President Alassane Ouattara to ease political tensions while urging Ivorians to unite around shared values of hope and solidarity.
Recognizing gestures of reconciliation
In his address, Thiam highlighted the significance of President Ouattara’s conciliatory actions, describing them as pivotal moments that could strengthen national cohesion. “The steps taken by the head of state signal a promising shift toward a more stable and harmonious political environment,” he stated, emphasizing that such efforts deserve acknowledgment across the political spectrum.
Celebrating independence together
During a public appearance in Yopougon to mark the country’s Independence Day celebrations, Thiam confirmed that the PDCI-RDA would participate in the national festivities. He framed the event as a unifying occasion that transcends party lines, stating, “This is a day for every Ivorian. Independence Day belongs to all citizens, not just one group or party.”
Looking ahead with optimism
The opposition leader expressed unwavering confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s future, pointing to the nation’s abundant resources and dynamic population as key drivers of progress. “Our country is rich in talent, initiative, and aspiration,” he remarked, calling on all Ivorians to collaborate in building a more inclusive and prosperous society for generations to come.
