The announcement came during a high-profile gathering at the French embassy in Libreville on Bastille Day. Fabrice Mauriès, Gabon’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France, revealed that President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema will undertake a state visit to Paris in the coming days—a diplomatic milestone described as the highest level of protocol.
Speaking before a distinguished audience including Gabonese officials, the diplomatic corps, and French community representatives, Mauriès emphasized the significance of the visit: “In the next few days, His Excellency President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema will travel to Paris for a state visit, marking the highest level of protocol and a decisive step in strengthening our bilateral ties.”
The ambassador highlighted that this visit is part of an ongoing evolution in relations, tracing back to engagements initiated in 2023. He recalled President Oligui Nguema’s official visit to Paris in spring 2024 and President Emmanuel Macron’s reciprocal trip to Libreville, underscoring a continuously expanding partnership. “This cooperation is in constant redefinition, shaping a new chapter in Gabon-France relations,” he stated.

Addressing France’s stance on Gabon’s political transition, Mauriès affirmed that Paris has remained a steadfast partner. “France did not participate in the transition; the Gabonese people alone determine their nation’s future. Yet we have never stepped back—our commitment remains unwavering,” he declared. “We are here to support the Gabonese in building a shared future, and this visit will crystallize that resolve.”
The ambassador also teased upcoming economic cooperation breakthroughs, revealing that the visit will unveil new joint projects aligned with both nations’ visions. “We are forging a mutually beneficial, win-win partnership—the kind President Oligui Nguema and President Macron both envision,” he explained. “Paris will soon unveil strategic initiatives to deepen our economic ties.”
Since the August 2023 regime change, Gabon and France have progressively reshaped their bilateral relationship. High-level exchanges, including the presidents’ reciprocal visits, have paved the way for renewed political, economic, and security cooperation. President Oligui Nguema’s state visit to Paris is poised to mark another leap forward, with major announcements expected to solidify this evolving alliance.
