N’Djamena commemorates French National Day with a celebration of Franco-Tchadian unity
Diplomatic leaders and local figures gathered in N’Djamena to honor the enduring partnership between France and Chad during a vibrant French National Day event.
The French Embassy in Chad hosted a special evening on July 14, 2026, at the French residence in N’Djamena to mark French National Day.
The event, filled with warmth and camaraderie, brought together Éric Gérard, the French Ambassador to Chad, alongside the Deputy Secretary-General of Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other attendees included military officials, diplomatic representatives, French expatriates living in Chad, government and private sector leaders, and civil society representatives.
The ceremony began with the national anthems of both countries, setting a dignified tone for the evening. Ambassador Gérard then delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of July 14 for France and the French people. He reflected on the core values of liberty, equality, and fraternity that define the French Republic.
Highlighting the deep historical ties between France and Chad, the ambassador paid tribute to veterans present at the event. « This friendship is built every single day. We must continue to forge bonds rooted in mutual respect, affection, honesty, and sincerity. We know how to speak frankly with one another, » he remarked.
The ambassador also underscored the robust cooperation between the two nations, noting 39 active projects spanning critical sectors such as water, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and youth and civil society initiatives. « The meeting between our two heads of state on January 29 in Paris marked a pivotal moment in redefining our partnership, » he added.
He further pointed to the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi as another milestone, where 49 countries, including Chad, were represented at the highest levels. Gérard reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Chad’s development through its « Chad Connexion 2030 » national development plan.
The evening concluded on a note of solidarity, with the ambassador expressing gratitude to all participants for strengthening the unbreakable bond between France and Chad.
