Fans react to PSG’s champions league back-to-back victory

Fans praise PSG players after Champions League triumph over Arsenal

João Neves, Willian Pacho and Marquinhos received the top three ratings from fans

Following PSG’s second consecutive Champions League victory, secured on Saturday in Budapest against Arsenal (1-1, 4-3 on penalties), tens of thousands of fans evaluated the performances of Luis Enrique’s players. The ratings awarded by supporters were generally more generous than those handed out by our editorial team.

The 15,000-plus online voters who assessed the Parisian squad’s efforts in the historic final reserved their highest praise for manager Luis Enrique, who earned a 7.6 average rating—significantly above the 6 awarded by our journalists.

Top-rated players for PSG

After the tense equaliser that leveled the match, João Neves stepped into the spotlight. The Portuguese midfielder dominated the duels until the final whistle, clinching the match’s highest fan rating at 7.2. Our editorial team agreed, also awarding him a 7. Marquinhos (6.6) and Willian Pacho (6.6) rounded out the Parisian podium. The Brazilian captain matched that score in our publication, while Pacho received a 6 from our journalists.

The defensive trio of Achraf Hakimi (6.2) and Nuno Mendes (6) also drew strong approval from fans, though the latter’s rating diverged from our team’s assessment—our journalists penalised the Portuguese full-back with a 4, largely due to his missed penalty in the shootout.

PSG players

Fabian Ruiz (5.8) was the only Parisian player to fall below a 6, likely reflecting a shaky start marked by several turnovers and nerves. Vitinha, who exited early due to cramps, still earned a solid 6.4 from fans—well above the 5 given by our editorial desk. Matveï Safonov, rarely tested in open play, nevertheless impressed supporters with a 6.2, contrasted with a 5 from our reporters.

Up front, forwards Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé each received a 6.1 from fans, outperforming the 5s from our team. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also stood out with a 6.2, slightly above the 6 in our paper, thanks in part to the penalty he drew that restored parity for PSG.

Arsenal’s ratings

On the opposing side, Arsenal’s average team rating stood at 4.9, marginally below the 5 given by our journalists. Fans showed more leniency toward Mosquera (4.4) and Trossard (4.4), both marked 3 in our publication, as well as Martin Odegaard (4.6 versus 4). In defeat, David Raya (6.1), William Saliba (5.9), and Kai Havertz (5.8)—the Gunners’ only scorer—received the highest marks, mirroring the 6s awarded by our team, including to Gabriel. Conversely, Jurrien Timber (4.6), Viktor Gyökeres (4.2), Bukayo Saka (4.5), and Declan Rice (5.3) faced sharper criticism. Other players such as Myles Lewis-Skelly and Piero Hincapié received close to our 5 ratings. Manager Mikel Arteta earned the lowest mark among Arsenal’s contingent with a 4.1, compared to a 4 from our desk.
