DRC president in Gabon for bilateral talks and friendship visit

President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) arrived in Libreville on Friday for an official working visit and goodwill tour aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties between Gabon and the DRC.

The Congolese leader was warmly received by Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema at the airport, where crowds gathered to greet him.

Ceremonial tribute at the Léon Mba Memorial

Later that day, President Tshisekedi paid a solemn visit to the newly renovated Léon Mba Memorial. There, he laid a wreath in honor of Gabon’s first president and independence icon, Léon Mba. The tribute included the unveiling of a biographical exhibit on Mba and a solemn remembrance ceremony with the playing of the national anthem.

The visit to the memorial reflects a broader commitment to honoring historical figures who played pivotal roles in Africa’s liberation struggle. Following the ceremony, President Tshisekedi signed the visitor’s book, marking his presence at the site.

Bilateral engagements continue

The official visit proceeded with a working session at the presidential palace on Saturday, where the two heads of state engaged in discussions to deepen cooperation between Gabon and the DRC.

Both nations, members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), maintain long-standing diplomatic relations, often marked by high-level exchanges and mutual visits.
