The second vice-president of Cameroon’s Social Democratic Front (SDF) has been appointed to lead the party’s new National Electoral Preparation Commission, a decision announced by party leader Joshua Osih during the executive committee meeting in Bamenda on June 13, 2026.

The upcoming municipal and legislative elections, scheduled for 2027 unless postponed, represent critical moments for the country’s political landscape. With these polls approaching, the SDF—Cameroon’s main opposition party—is making strategic moves to ensure a robust and transparent electoral process.

In response to this imperative, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) convened in Bamenda and established a dedicated National Electoral Preparation Commission. This technical body aims to streamline the party’s internal operations ahead of the elections, prioritizing efficiency, transparency, and proactive engagement.

Strategic focus on grassroots mobilization and transparent polling oversight

The appointment of economist and academic Louis Marie Kakdeu as director of this commission underscores the SDF’s commitment to a methodical return to the field and enhanced monitoring of polling stations. Kakdeu’s appointment, decided during the Bamenda NEC meeting, comes with a clear mandate: to identify and attract qualified candidates in constituencies currently lacking representation.

Central to his mission is revitalizing the SDF’s grassroots structures in its traditional strongholds and pre-positioning the party for an effective legislative and municipal campaign. Kakdeu brings trusted experience to the role, having previously served as Joshua Osih’s campaign director for the October 2025 presidential election. A university lecturer and specialist in budgetary, economic, and fiscal matters, he advocates for systematic ground-level engagement and stronger oversight in voting booths to safeguard transparency.

This leadership change reflects the SDF’s determination to rebuild its political base and regain momentum following recent electoral setbacks.
