On Sunday, the Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi, addressed these concerns in a clear and definitive statement.

Government dismisses claims of power vacuum

René Emmanuel Sadi unequivocally stated, « The President is alive. » He also confirmed that Paul Biya remains in office and has not resigned or abandoned his duties. The minister further announced that the President’s return to Cameroon is imminent, though no specific date was provided.

This announcement marks the first official response from Cameroonian authorities since the prolonged absence began. It comes as opposition figures continue to demand transparency about the President’s health and ability to govern.

Opposition questions raised over constitutional concerns

René Emmanuel Sadi criticized opposition leaders for what he described as a « biased interpretation » of the Constitution. He emphasized that legal provisions must be applied with « rigorous objectivity. »

Addressing rumors of a potential power vacuum, the minister firmly rejected the notion that the Constitutional Council had declared such a vacancy. « The Constitutional Council has not made any declaration regarding a power vacuum, » he stated.

When pressed for details on the President’s return, Sadi acknowledged the lack of a precise timeline but assured the public that Biya would return « very soon. »
