Burkina Faso’s sié frédéric kambou honored for impactful health reporting

The 29th edition of the Galian Awards, held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Friday, June 19, 2026, once again shined a spotlight on outstanding journalistic achievements. Among the esteemed winners of this prestigious competition was Sié Frédéric Kambou, a journalist from Burkina 24, who received the Special Prize from the Ministry of Health in the Online Press category. 

This significant recognition was bestowed upon his compelling report titled « Au Burkina Faso, la santé sort de l’ombre du privilège ! » (In Burkina Faso, Health Emerges from the Shadow of Privilege!), originally published on December 26, 2025. Through extensive fieldwork, Kambou meticulously illuminated the transformative reforms underway within the nation’s health sector. His investigation notably highlighted the successful reduction in costs for various medical examinations and the abolition of deposit requirements for dialysis sessions in public health institutions.

Overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving his trophy, Sié Frédéric Kambou dedicated this significant accolade to his dedicated colleagues at Burkina 24.
