Bénin senate first leadership elected in Porto-Novo

The Bénin Senate, seated in Porto-Novo, has reached a pivotal milestone with the election of its inaugural leadership. On a decisive day in August 2026, senators convened to establish the chamber’s guiding body, a move that underscores the nation’s constitutional progress toward full parliamentary functionality.

At the helm of this historic session, Patrice Talon was selected as President of the Senate, entrusted with steering legislative proceedings, representing the institution, and ensuring its seamless operation. Supporting Talon’s leadership, Louis Vlavonou was appointed Vice-President.
