Responding to the debate on constitutional revision during the Diomaye President coalition press conference, Minister Abdourahmane Diouf asserted that no one will be allowed to destabilise Senegal as long as Bassirou Diomaye Faye leads the country. He stated that the head of state had given guarantees since 2024 regarding institutional stability and social peace.
The minister also revisited the 2024 electoral process, claiming that Ousmane Sonko initially supported postponing the presidential election before eventually backing Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s candidacy during the campaign. According to Abdourahmane Diouf, the President of the National Assembly is now deviating from that path, accusing him of betraying the head of state and engaging in political manipulation concerning the institutional reforms under discussion.
Furthermore, Diouf noted that previous presidents, despite having parliamentary majorities, never used that advantage to alter the Constitution in the manner now proposed. In his view, if such changes had been made earlier, current political actors would not be able to advocate for the reforms they now champion.
Abdourahmane Diouf was particularly harsh towards National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko, reminding him that he once presented himself as the “guardian of the revolution,” a stance Diouf considers incompatible with his current responsibilities. “We have no use for a phony guide,” he declared.
