Tchad: unveiling 60 years of parliamentary history in new book

On May 23, 2026, the Blue Hall of the National Archives (ONAMA) in N’Djamena hosted the unveiling of « Sixty Years of Parliamentary Life in Chad (1960–2020), » a comprehensive 612-page work authored by former parliamentarian Issa Hassana Adoum.

Compiled over years of meticulous research, the book spans five thematic chapters, offering a detailed chronicle of Chad’s legislative evolution from independence to the present day. It dissects institutional transformations, pivotal milestones, enduring achievements, and the socio-political shifts that have shaped the nation’s democratic landscape.

Adoum, a seasoned scholar and former deputy, emphasized that this publication serves as a cornerstone for understanding Chad’s political heritage. The book is positioned not only as an academic resource for historians and students but also as a guiding reference for policymakers and future generations navigating the complexities of governance.

Adoum clarified that the manuscript originated as his doctoral thesis before being expanded into a full-length publication, ensuring both depth and scholarly rigor.

The Arabic-language book drew significant attention during the event, with attendees—including prominent figures—urging its translation into French. This move would broaden accessibility, enabling a wider audience of readers, researchers, and students to engage with the insights on Chad’s parliamentary journey.

The evening concluded with a signing session, where Adoum personally autographed copies of the book for attendees.
