Sonko mourns loss of Guinguinéo’s revered spiritual leader

The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual guide and Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sonko expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a religious figure whose influence extended far beyond the borders of Senegal.

Tributes to a revered figure

Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, who passed away on July 9, 2026, was remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the spiritual and moral guidance of the Mouride community.

« The news of his departure has filled me with profound sadness and deep emotion, » Sonko wrote in his tribute. « I had the honor of meeting him on multiple occasions during my visits to Guinguinéo. Each encounter left an indelible mark on me—his kindness, hospitality, and the affection he showed towards everyone will forever remain etched in my memory. »

A time of collective mourning

Sonko extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, the Khalife général of the Mouride brotherhood, and the people of Senegal, emphasizing the void left by the loss of such a revered leader.

« May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise, » he concluded, invoking divine grace for the departed soul.
