Senegal mourns loss of mouride spiritual leader serigne abdou bakhi mbacke

The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who died on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a Facebook post, Sonko expressed his profound grief and paid tribute to the revered religious figure, extending his sympathies to the deceased’s family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people.

« I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » Sonko wrote. « May Allah grant him His mercy and eternal peace. »

He recalled his personal encounters with the late guide during visits to Guinguinéo, describing the warmth and hospitality he always received. « On each occasion, he extended a special affection, a warm welcome, and kindness that left a lasting impression on us, » Sonko reflected.

In this « difficult time, » the National Assembly President offered his « most sincere condolences » to the bereaved family, the Mouride community, and the nation, praying for divine comfort and strength.

« May Allah, in His infinite mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise, » he concluded.
