Ousmane Sonko warns supporters against political traps in Bambey

Ousmane Sonko, the prominent leader of the PASTEF party, issued a stern warning to his supporters during a Saturday gathering in Bambey. He cautioned that his movement could face orchestrated provocations designed to undermine its cohesion and stability.

The opposition figure emphasized that some of these tactics might specifically target him personally, aiming to provoke emotional reactions from his base and escalate tensions across the nation.

« Expect all manner of provocations,» Sonko declared. « Some will be directed at my person. They will attempt to weaponize state institutions against me.»

He further explained that certain political actors believe targeting him is the most effective way to destabilize both the PASTEF movement and the broader Senegalese landscape.

« Their calculations hinge on the idea that shaking PASTEF or the country requires first unsettling Sonko,» he asserted.

During his address, the PASTEF president also highlighted what he described as increasing restrictions on party activities, particularly membership card distribution events. Yet he remained resolute in his conviction that Senegal would not revert to the recent era of heightened political strife.

« Senegal will not endure another dark chapter while I stand firm,» Sonko affirmed. « No amount of manipulation will alter this path.»

His remarks come amid a shifting political landscape, with the recent emergence of a new presidential party led by Bassirou Diomaye Faye and ongoing discussions about the future trajectory of Senegal’s political forces.
