A multi-agency security task force executed a sweeping crackdown across multiple high-risk neighborhoods in N’Djamena on Saturday, August 1, 2026. The operation, involving the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT), Gendarmerie nationale, Police nationale, judicial police units, and specialized security services, resulted in the arrest of 252 suspects and the seizure of illicit items.

Targeted neighborhoods include critical areas

The coordinated raid focused on districts with elevated crime rates, including Mandjakoli (5th arrondissement), Roma, Bildo, Katanga (2nd arrondissement), as well as Colombie and other strategic zones within the capital.

Drug busts and illicit substance seizures

Public Security Director Hachim Haroum Deby confirmed that the operation targeted both dealers and users of dangerous narcotics. Among the confiscated substances were locally known drugs referred to as Colorado and Bongo, alongside counterfeit alcohol.

High-level oversight during the operation

The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of the Director General of the Gendarmerie nationale and served as President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Key security officials, including the First Deputy Police Controller and the Second Deputy Commander of the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT), actively participated in the mission.

Comprehensive seizure of contraband

Following the intervention, authorities presented 252 detainees to the media. Additionally, security forces recovered a substantial haul, including firearms, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.

The detailed findings of the operation were formally presented to General d’Armée Ali Ahmat Aghabache, Minister of Public Security and Immigration, underscoring the government’s commitment to combating crime and maintaining public order in N’Djamena.
