Moroccan authorities have mobilized all available resources to prevent any illegal border crossings into Ceuta and Melilla, targeting both organizers and participants of such attempts. This decisive action follows the emergence of anonymous online posts and social media campaigns calling for a coordinated mass breach on August 15.

In a press briefing, Rachid El Khalfi confirmed that security forces have already detained several individuals suspected of inciting these activities. The detainees are currently undergoing judicial proceedings under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office. The Interior Ministry emphasized that such calls pose « severe risks to public safety » and constitute criminal offenses under Moroccan law, warning that both participants and online campaign organizers will face legal consequences.

Permanent security measures enforced

The Interior Ministry stressed that the operational capacity of security services, coordinated by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), extends beyond any specific timeline. Enhanced surveillance and security protocols have been implemented along the Ceuta and Melilla borders, with measures continuously adapted to evolving threats and field conditions.

Authorities have called on the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling for misleading instructions that endanger lives. They reiterated that combating irregular migration is conducted strictly within the bounds of the law.

Call for shared responsibility on minors

The official statement underscored that tackling irregular migration and human trafficking requires a « shared responsibility » approach, involving both Morocco and Spain. In this context, the Moroccan Interior Ministry urged Spanish authorities to fulfill their commitments by accelerating the repatriation of unaccompanied minors currently in Ceuta to their families in Morocco. Rabat emphasized the need to overcome administrative and judicial obstacles delaying these returns, always prioritizing the best interests of the minors involved.

The ministry also reaffirmed the effectiveness of the « immediate repatriation » mechanism, citing its successful track record in previous border interventions. Moroccan authorities pledged to maintain strict enforcement, coordination, and legal compliance to uphold public order and safety.
