Morocco praised for pivotal role in preventing irregular migration flows

Regional leader in responsible migration governance

In a recent analysis from Washington, Moroccan-American expert Mohamed Daadaoui highlighted the Kingdom’s pivotal role in preventing and managing irregular migration flows across the Mediterranean. The academic emphasized that Morocco has emerged as a trusted regional partner, recognized internationally for its proactive policies and effective border management strategies.

Beyond borders: Morocco’s multidimensional approach

The scholar underscored the success of Morocco’s bilateral cooperation with Spain, particularly in combating human trafficking networks and executing complex rescue operations at sea. However, he cautioned against overburdening a single nation with the sole responsibility of addressing transcontinental migration challenges.

« While Morocco can effectively secure its borders, it cannot single-handedly resolve the broader issue of irregular migration, » Daadaoui remarked, stressing that migratory flows require a collective response rather than a unilateral burden.

Europe urged to strengthen strategic collaboration with Morocco

Daadaoui concluded by calling on European policymakers to reframe their approach by tackling the root causes of migration—namely socio-economic disparities in origin countries. He reiterated that sustainable migration management hinges on deepened partnership with Morocco, describing the Kingdom as an indispensable ally in the region.

« Effective migration governance demands close collaboration with Morocco as a credible and reliable partner, » he asserted.
