Maurice Digbeu Kipré, the visionary founder and CEO of Serenity, a leading Ivory Coast-based insurance firm, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Abidjan. He was 75 years old.
Born in Côte d’Ivoire, Kipré pursued higher education both locally and in the United States. His professional journey began in 1979 when he joined American International Group (AIG), where he honed his expertise in the insurance sector.
In 1988, he took on a pivotal role as Director of Insurance within Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, shaping national insurance policies. By 1993, he had ascended to lead CICA-RE, a reinsurance company he steered until early 2008.
With a deep commitment to Africa’s insurance landscape, Kipré remained actively involved in key industry bodies. He served on the Regional Control Commission of the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA), the Executive Committee of the African Insurance Organization (OAA), and the Executive Office of the Federation of African National Insurance Companies (FANAF). Additionally, he contributed as a board member of the International Insurance Institute of Yaoundé (IIA).
